NOFA Organic Lawn And Turf Course
August 14, 2008

The NOFA Organic Land Care Program, a project of the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA), will present, for the first time in New Jersey, the NOFA Organic Lawn and Turf Course at Duke Farms in Hillsborough, NJ on August 14, 2008, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

This one-day, intensive course will provide state-of-the-art information for managing lawns and turf organically and is geared toward land care professionals, groundskeepers and municipalities who are responsible for the establishment and care of grass, as well as anyone interested in learning organic methods. This training will also be given on August 19 at UMASS Dartmouth, MA and on August 21 at Manchester, CT

The Mayors’ Committee for a Green Future Workshop & Business Meeting

The MCGF unveiled two “how-to-do-it” toolkits: 1) for conducting an Energy Audit to save money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and 2) constructing a Green Purchasing program in your town to save money and reduce your impact on the environment. These are the first in a series of similar efforts to provide New Jersey towns the resources they need to become green.

Reaching Our Targets: Innovative Global Warming Solutions for New Jersey

Presented by The New Jersey Sustainable State Institute and The Rutgers Innovation Studies Initiative

Nearly 200 people attended this conference. NJSSI and the Rutgers Innovation Studies Initiative are held the conference to release the results of the New Jersey Energy Sustainability Project, a just completed major research and stakeholder process to develop a set of indicators and targets to guide our climate and energy policy. In addition to shedding light on many of the immediate decisions we must confront, this conference also asks: What next? Experts will weigh the opportunities for the innovative technologies and public policies that must carry us to 2050 and beyond.

Local Solutions to the Global Agricultural Crisis
Thursday, Sept 13th 7-9pm

The New Jersey Sustainable State Institute (NJSSI) co-sponsored the panel discussion:  

"Local Solutions to the Global Agricultural Crisis: Latin America Meets Central Jersey" 

Farm leaders from Latin America and New Jersey participated in an informative discussion on the global rural crisis and helping by supporting local food systems and fair trade.
